Testimonies:
Joshua survived a tragedy that should have taken his life.
A lithium battery explosion set his body on fire at 3:30 a.m., burning more than 65 percent of his body and leaving him with injuries so severe that doctors placed him in a coma for ten weeks. His home was destroyed, his health was broken, and his future was uncertain.
But in the middle of the fire, when he had no strength left, Joshua cried out to God. That prayer began a new chapter. After months of recovery, deep loss, and searching for direction, Joshua came to Pacific Garden Mission looking for stability and a place where he could rest, heal, and grow in his faith.
Sermon: “The Splitting of the Veil”: This sermon focuses on the moment the veil in the temple was torn at the death of Jesus and what that act represents for every believer. Pastor Phil explains that the veil served as a barrier between humanity and the presence of God. Because of sin, mankind lost the open fellowship that Adam once enjoyed in the garden. Fear, shame, guilt, selfishness, and emotional turmoil entered the world when that relationship was broken. When Jesus died, the veil was torn from top to bottom, proving that God Himself removed the barrier. Through the blood of Christ, anyone can now come boldly into God’s presence. The sermon emphasizes that no amount of self-effort or temporary fix can heal the human heart. Only a restored relationship with God through Jesus can bring true peace, forgiveness, and freedom from guilt.
