Double Jeopardy – PGMTV episode 447

Testimonies:
Yohance’s Testimony shares a powerful journey from addiction, homelessness, and despair to new life in Jesus Christ. After years of relying on willpower, alcohol, and drugs, Yohance found himself sleeping on Chicago trains, exhausted and broken. In February, he arrived at Pacific Garden Mission, entered the New Day program, and surrendered his life to Christ. Through Scripture, community, and accountability, Yohance discovered true freedom and purpose. Today, he continues to grow in faith, serves others through Ministry Services, and uses his gifts as a barber to encourage men entering the program, living proof that lasting transformation is possible through Jesus Christ.

Melvin’s Testimony shares a journey marked by addiction, loss, and repeated setbacks, and the hope he has found through faith in Jesus Christ. Born and raised in Chicago, Melvin’s life was derailed by alcoholism and drug use, leading to broken relationships, incarceration, and homelessness. With nowhere else to turn, he came to Pacific Garden Mission, where he found shelter, medical care, and a Christ-centered community committed to helping him rebuild his life. As Melvin continues to walk in sobriety and grow spiritually, he credits God’s grace and the support of the program for restoring his health, reconnecting him with family, and giving him a renewed desire to live for Christ.

Sermon: “Double Jeopardy”:
Double Jeopardy explores the powerful truth found in Romans 8:1, that there is “now no condemnation” for those who are in Christ Jesus. Using the legal concept of double jeopardy, the sermon explains that because Jesus Christ was already condemned on the cross for our sins, believers cannot be condemned again. The message walks through the struggle with sin described in Romans 7, the freedom and assurance found in Romans 8, and the role of Jesus as our advocate before God. Drawing from Scripture and real-life illustrations, the sermon offers hope to those weighed down by guilt, reminding listeners that forgiveness, freedom, and victory are found not through willpower or reform, but through faith in Christ alone.
