Testimony:
Crystal: In this testimony, Crystal shares how a childhood marked by rejection, instability, and abuse led her into years of deep pain, anger, and addiction. Growing up between homes and feeling unwanted by her parents, she turned to alcohol as a way to numb the trauma she carried, which eventually led to destructive patterns, broken relationships, and a downward spiral that left her feeling hopeless and without purpose. As her life unraveled, impacting both her children and her own well-being, she reached a breaking point and came to Pacific Garden Mission in July 2025. Though initially resistant and fearful, Crystal describes how being surrounded by Christ-centered love, structure, and support began to transform her life. Through the New Day and New Life programs, she has been able to confront her past, release buried pain, rebuild relationships, and grow in her faith. Now, with a renewed understanding of God’s love and a sense of purpose, she sees her life as a new beginning and desires to continue walking forward in obedience, trusting that God is shaping her into who He has called her to be.
Sermon: “Be Angry and Sin Not”: In this sermon, Pastor Phil teaches that while anger is a natural and inevitable human emotion, it becomes destructive when it is not properly controlled and resolved. Building on the theme of unforgiveness, he explains that unresolved pain often manifests as anger in different forms, whether explosive outbursts, sarcastic and cutting words, or quiet, internalized resentment. Pastor Phil makes a clear distinction between righteous anger, which aligns with God’s holiness, and sinful anger, which is rooted in personal offense, pride, and unresolved hurt. Using the example of Cain, he shows how unchecked anger, fueled by rejection, jealousy, and criticism, can grow into sin and ultimately destroy a person’s life. The message emphasizes practical, biblical steps for dealing with anger: recognizing triggers, pausing before reacting, responding with humility, seeking resolution quickly, and refusing to let anger linger and give the enemy a foothold. Ultimately, the sermon calls listeners to confront the root of their anger, surrender it to God, and choose obedience so that anger does not control them or define their future.
