Under the leadership of David Saulnier, the ministry continued to grow. The use of computers and e-mail communication was introduced and expanded. Accounting was automated. Literature was upgraded. Food donations increased.
The number of radio outlets around the world airing "UNSHACKLED!"continued to increase to over 1,100 during this time. And in 1996, the mission received the Radio Producer of the Year Award from the National Religious Broadcasters.
New ministries were developed under David Saulnier's leadership including theBible Academy Program, the Old Lighthouse Redemption Choir, and the Jail and Hospital Ministries. In March of 1997, David Saulnier retired from the ministry of Pacific Garden Mission, bringing to a close almost six decades of faithful leadership by father and son.
Today David McCarrell is at the helm of the Old Lighthouse serving as PGM President. McCarrell has been familiar with the ministry of Pacific Garden Mission for many years through the influence of his father, William McCarrell. The elder McCarrell served as pastor of Cicero Bible Church in Cicero, Illinois and was involved withPacific Garden Mission for well over 50 years.
David McCarrell, who had served on the PGM board for 18 years—nine of them as chairman—assumed the leadership position on an interim basis in early 1997. Later that year he was named President. Under his direction, Pacific Garden Mission has added a career development program and the Polish ministry was established.
In 2001, McCarrell instituted the "Bread of Life" ministry, distributing donated bakery goods, along with the gospel, to the people in the inner city projects. He has also overseen the renovation work in the Medical/Dental clinic and atGospel League Home. The radio ministry has expanded to 1,800 stations now broadcasting "UNSHACKLED!" in English, Spanish, Arabic, Romanian, Russian, and Polish. Additionally, a new two-minute radio testimony feature called Free Indeed debuted in 2000 and is now heard on more than 250 stations.
