The Jail Outreach Ministry of Pacific Garden Mission has as its goal, to set at liberty, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, those who are incarcerated.
Directed by Pastor Samson Green, a graduate of the Old Lighthouse Bible Institute, PGM ministers to the inmates at Cook County Jail and at the Juvenile Detention Center. Inmates as young as 18 come from all walks of life and have been convicted of a wide variety of crimes.
Through the resources of PGM, Samson is able to provide Bibles, conduct Bible studies, disciple new believers and provide additional aftercare for the inmates and their families. What sets the PGM Jail Outreach Ministry apart from others is the opportunity to join the Bible Program and live at the mission upon release from jail. This environment of discipleship and discipline helps these men grow spiritually and prepares them to re-enter society.
Another special component of this ministry is the contact Samson has with the inmates' families. Many of the youthful offenders, as well as adults, struggle with the transition back home. Whenever possible the families are visited and the Gospel is presented so that when the former inmates return home, they enter an environment of faith in Jesus Christ.
"The Spirit of the LORD God is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound."
Isaiah 61:1
