"And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me shall never hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." — John 6:35

As Pacific Garden Mission heads for one of Chicago's housing projects with a truck loaded with bread, crackers, cookies, coffee cakes and special gifts, there is more than just physical nourishment on our minds. While the individuals and families living in the projects certainly need food for their bodies, they also have a desperate need for the spiritual food of the gospel.

In 2000, PGM president David McCarrell, recognizing the urgent need to reach out to the community with the love of Christ, initiated the "Bread of Life" ministry. The food, donated to the mission by large super market chains and distributors, is often received with tears and smiles of appreciation. With the food, gospel tracts are distributed and recipients are offered the opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Hundreds have professed faith in Christ since the program began.

Pray that God will continue to provide the means to distribute bread and the "Bread of Life" to the people of Chicago.
